About Karen

Hello, my name is Karen Atkins, and I offer Supervision and Spiritual Direction(Companioning) for individuals and professionals navigating seasons of change, loss, questioning, and becoming.

My practice in grounded in deep respect for your inner life and the wisdom you already carry.  My work has grown out of walking alongside individuals and professionals in complex, uncertain and liminal seasons, where easy answers are neither possible nor helpful.

I hold a Diploma of Professional Supervision through the Institute of Pastoral Supervision and Reflective Practice (IPSRP). I completed my Spiritual Direction training with Stillpoint, Brisbane. I am a certified Grief Educator and Life Purpose Coach.

As part of my spiritual companioning practice, I provide a space for Grief Work. My years as a spiritual care practitioner in paediatric and adult palliative care have brought me the humbling privilege of accompanying individuals and families through some of the darkest and most sacred moments of their lives. These encounters - and the people who entrusted me with their stories - have been my deepest teachers, revealing the importance of bearing witness to suffering and the truth that grief work is, at its core, soul work.

Whether you are engaging in supervision, spiritual companioning or grief work, I offer a spacious, grounded presence where you can listen more deeply to your own life, respond to what is emerging, and honour the shape of your calling.

“…..the journey on demands the journey in.”

                                                                                                             Michael Paterson

We begin with a gentle, no-obligation conversation to explore your needs and see if my way of walking alongside you feels like the right fit for your journey.

Built my first site in 2000 and steadily learned what it takes to make websites work. Dabbled in WordPress back then, still do. Since building my first Squarespace site in 2016, I’ve been impressed with the relatively streamlined approach to website design and development that Squarespace offers compared to WordPress. SEO was a major challenge from the start — I’ve spent a lot of time keeping up with what’s required to get sites working, ranking well on a SERP. I have confidence with what Squarespace offers for SEO.

Having worked for more than 10 years in the web team of an inland, regional university in Australia and dealing with frustrations that come with working for a large corporate enterprise, the idea of setting up my own web design business became my goal.

Set up my business in late 2017. Opted for a sea change, too: I now live on Coochiemudlo Island 45 minutes from Brisbane. Love working from home. Love working for small business clients. Still get casual work with the university.

Challenges? The main one is pricing my work for small businesses. Doing quality work, doing the research to be up to date in the industry, takes time; it’s hard to factor in this time to my pricing while being competitive in the market and affordable for many small businesses.
