A 21st Century Paradigm Shift: Historical Jesus to Cosmic Christ – Janet Galos @ Villa Maria Spirituality Center

Session 1: 10 – 11am: After introductions, we will begin the day with music and a short liturgy.
We will then explore together some of the foundational biblical texts that give rise to the
idea of a “Cosmic Christ”.
Session 2: 11.30 – 12:30pm: A short clip with Joanna Macy will lead us into the contempo-
rary scene. We will explore, via PowerPoint presentation, the impact of modern science – evolu-
tionary theory and quantum physics – on our new/old understanding of the Christ… Insights
from Teilhard de Chardin, Illia Delio, Richard Rohr, Matthew Fox, Judy Cannato and others will
help us on our way.
Session 3: 1:15 – 1:45pm: Quiet time – time to reflect/journal on what has touched you
most, and/or to read and reflect on some additional short readings which will be provided.
Session 4: 1:50 – 2.20:pm: We will share insights about the importance of the idea of the
“Cosmic Christ” for us personally and societally.

Janet Galos is a retired disability educator, with post-graduate degrees in Education and Theology (Christian Spirituality). She has
been a Meditator with the WCCM since 2008.
Her passion now lies in bringing together various elements of the Christian tradition which will shape a vibrant 21 st century spirituality:
one that is both in tune with modern cultural and scientific understandings and which is inspired and energized by the contemplative way.
